Euro 6.2 is the latest vehicles emission standard for Europe, using strict tests aimed at increasing the accuracy of real driving emissions. This means vehicles with new Euro 6.2 diesel engines are likely to need additional AdBlue® top-ups between services. AdBlue® is a solution of urea and water used to treat exhaust gases and remove harmful pollutants, including nitrogen oxides (NOx), of which nitrogen dioxide (NO2) is the most harmful.
The fluid is stored in a tank in your car, but unlike petrol or diesel it is not injected into the engine; instead it is fed into part of the vehicle’s exhaust. By using SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) technology, the toxic NOx exhaust gases are converted into harmless nitrogen and water.
A combination of the SCR system and current HDi technology makes up the PEUGEOT BlueHDi system, which is designed to work without affecting engine performance or your driving experience.
To function correctly, the AdBlue® tank of your Euro 6.2 diesel engine must be refilled with AdBlue® fluid when needed.
For most drivers, this will be carried out as part of your Scheduled Service – or every 12,500 miles, but, depending on your driving style, the new Euro 6.2 vehicles may need filling up sooner.
If the tank needs to be topped up, the urea warning light will come on when you switch on the ignition. You should arrange to have it topped up as soon as possible. Please refer to your Vehicle Handbook for more information on the warning light and associated messages.
