Celebrating a century in business is a remarkable achievement by any standard. So, what’s the secret to maintaining the excellence required to stay at the top for over 100 years? According to Michael Warner, Chairman of Warners, it’s all about a ‘hands-on’ management style. This approach not only boosts customer confidence but also explains why so many car owners have remained loyal to Warners for decades.
Warners has evolved to cover all aspects of motoring, offering services ranging from basic car washes and tyre fittings to comprehensive servicing and MOTs, alongside the latest in new car technology. The opening of our new Parts Hub in Tewkesbury highlights the significant growth Warners has experienced over the decades, now proudly hosting dealerships for four major motor manufacturers. Despite this expansion, the company's origins were modest.
In 1920, brothers Cecil and Harold Warner returned from the Great War and started their business. Initially, they served the farming community, focusing on tractor repairs and related services. Even back then, Warners was known for its reliability, extending its services to include bicycle repairs based on customer needs.
The business quickly grew, becoming synonymous with value and reliability. It expanded to include car repairs, petrol supplies, and bus services. A significant milestone was the acquisition of an Austin agency in 1923. This move proved foresighted as the coaching industry declined in the 1950s and 60s with the rise of private car ownership.
The modern era of Warners began in 1968 when Michael Warner, grandson of Harold Warner, took charge of the car repair segment. His dynamic approach and enthusiasm led to the relocation of the business from the small village of Twyning to the nearby town of Tewkesbury. This move set the stage for Warners to grow into the county’s leading motor group.
Michael Warner has always believed that people—both staff and customers—are the key to any business's success. He has consistently given back to the community by sponsoring numerous local causes and sports clubs. Under his leadership, the company transformed from a small operation into a thriving enterprise. Warners attributes their success to a steadfast commitment to being friendly, professional, and innovative, offering value for money and ensuring total customer satisfaction.
Warners has been selling and servicing Peugeot and Citroën cars and commercial vehicles for over 40 years. In November 2012, they became Isuzu dealers for Gloucestershire, marking a new and exciting chapter for the Group. From August 2024, Warners will join a select group of 75 dealerships across the UK in introducing two dynamic new Chinese brands to our existing brands. Welcome Omoda, synonymous with sporty elegance, and Jaecoo, embodying practicality and premium craftmanship, enhancing our ability to cater to a diverse audience.
While we transition away from new Peugeot sales in Gloucester, we remain steadfast in our commitment to serving as an Authorised Repairer and Parts Hub for both Citroën and Peugeot at our Gloucester and Tewkesbury locations.
